The Whitby Bookshop

The Shop
The Whitby Bookshop occupies five rooms in a Grade II listed building in the heart of the historic seaport of Whitby. It is an independent shop which prides itself on the range of stock and the quality of service.
Unique Features
Two downstairs rooms carry all the fiction and non-fiction sections, whilst the third downstairs room is dedicated entirely to Children's Books.

Up the spiral, wooden staircase, (view video in Windows Media Player 9) which is a striking feature of the shop, there are two rooms of quality remainder books. These are publishers' remainders and overstocks as well as bookshop and book club returns. The emphasis is on genuine remainders and returns rather than promotional cut price books. The stock of these changes constantly and includes many current or bestselling titles at half, or less, of the published price.

More than books...
The wide-ranging stock is complemented by a huge selection of greeting cards, giftwrap and stationery and by an extensive range of spoken word books and NAXOS CDs.

Services & Events
Apart from the range of stock we offer we have an excellent ordering service. We can carry out a computerised search for any book and order anything which is currently in print. The vast majority of orders arrive the very next day. If you would like to order from us but do not live locally we are happy to post books.

We supply books to a large number of local schools and offer a discount, except on the remainders, to any schools interested in the service.

Shadowmancer A number of local authors have chosen to launch their books at the shop and we have a number of author signing events each year - allowing customers to meet favourite authors. Shadowmancer by G P Taylor was launched in this shop in October 2002 and has gone on to be a world-wide phenomenon with a multi-million dollar Hollywood movie currently in production.

Staff at the Whitby Bookshop are chosen for their bookselling experience and their friendly, helpful manner and we like to offer the sort of old fashioned service not often found today.

The shop is open 7 days a week.

From the comments that are frequently made to us we know that, for many people, a visit to the shop is the highlight of their time in Whitby. Why not see if you agree?!
